National Director, Field Medical Affairs (US) – Remote
The Opportunity
Our client is a pioneering, clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company dedicated to developing first-in-class targeted therapies for patients with significant unmet needs. Their lead program is a novel, small-molecule epigenetic inhibitor currently in clinical development for multiple myeloma and other hematologic and solid tumor malignancies.
As the company prepares for its next phase of growth, they are seeking a strategic and operational leader to build and direct their inaugural U.S. Field Medical Science Liaison (MSL) organization.
Position Summary
The National Director, Field Medical Affairs will provide the strategic vision and operational leadership for the U.S. field-based MSL team. This individual is responsible for recruiting, developing, and leading a high-performing medical team while ensuring scientific excellence and regulatory compliance. As a key medical leader, you will drive scientific engagement with external experts (OLs) and internal stakeholders to support the company’s medical and clinical development objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership:Recruit, hire, and mentor a high-caliber team of MSLs across the United States.
- Strategic Planning: Collaborate with Medical Affairs and cross-functional leadership to define the field strategy and OL engagement pull-through.
- Scientific Engagement: Oversee Opinion Leader (OL) mapping and the development of sustainable, high-level scientific relationships.
- Clinical Support: Contribute to activities supporting investigator-initiated trials (IITs), educational programs, and data dissemination.
- Operational Excellence: Ensure all field activities are scientifically accurate, medically comprehensive, and strictly compliant with industry regulations.
- Internal Advocacy: Provide regular updates to management and internal stakeholders on field insights, territory activities, and competitive intelligence.
- Conference Representation: Represent the organization at major scientific conferences (ASH, ASCO, etc.) and medical meetings.
Skills and Qualifications
- Education: Advanced scientific degree required (PharmD, PhD, MD, or equivalent).
- Experience: Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in a field-based medical affairs role (MSL), with at least 2+ years in a leadership/management position.
- Therapeutic Expertise: Deep industry experience in Oncology or Hematology is mandatory.
- Work Style:A “roll-up-the-sleeves” mentality with the ability to navigate both high-level strategy and hands-on tactical execution in a fast-paced environment.
- Communication: Exceptional presentation and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build trust and credibility with external experts.
- Travel: Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
